History and Photos

In the Autumn of 1997, a group of drum corps folks who were planning the Massachusetts Drum & Bugle Corps Hall of Fame Banquet came up with the idea that it might be nice to have a mini-corps perform at the banquet.  From that idea, a drum & bugle corps was formed.  By word of mouth, the news went out, and more and more veterans of drum corps began arriving at rehearsals.  The corps was to exist for one year only, but the experience and ultimate performance was so rewarding, that it was decided to keep it going.

That first year, the Legends performed :

"Voice of the Guns"(St. Kevin's Emerald Knights),

"Battle Hymn of the Republic"(Cavaliers),

"Sweet Georgia Brown"(Lt. Norman Prince Princemen),

"Where or When"(St Vincent's Cadets)

"Auld Lang Syne"(Kilties).

The drumline played a St. Kevin's Emerald Knights Streetbeat, a Gerry Shellmer Boston Crusader drum solo, a Bobby Thompson Blessed Sac Golden Knights drum solo, and Harold Ginther's famous "Grey Ghost" drum solo, that was performed by the Reilly Raiders and was the first extended drum solo played in the history of drum corps.

Since that founding year, the Legends have performed many of the Classics of the drum corps repertory from the 50's to the 90's.  We are a living museum.  We keep this music alive through our rehearsals and performances so that older fans can recall our unique history, and younger fans can experience the history that brought us to this time.

Our corps is open to anyone.  For information on membership or performance bookings, email us via this website.

Thanks for checking us out, and please stay in touch.
