Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

March 17, 2010    The Legends of Drum Corps  sends it's regrets to the Bonfiglio Family, and the 27th Lancer Community on the passing of George Bonfiglio.  As a fitting tribute from us, those who are interested will gather on Thursday evening to perform at 7:00 at the Vertuccio Funeral Home, 773 Broadway in Revere, to play "The Lord's Prayer" and "Danny Boy".  All brass players from all corps are invited to be a part of this tribute.  We will meet, beginning at 6:00PM at the Lincoln School(across the street from the funeral home, and up about a block) for a tuning and quick run-through.   After the performance, we will adjourn to the the G & T Lounge in Everett for our regular rehearsal at 8:00.

The lighting at the G & T Lounge, is a little on the sexy, lounge side.  You may want to invest in a stand light(one of those battery powered lights that clip onto a book cover for night reading).  The food is great!  The menu is much like Santarpios, with the addition of subs!  The Giugliano Family made us more than welcome.

Next Thursday's rehearsal is at the G & T Lounge, and the Saturday rehearsal on the 27th is at The Prince Palace.  6 rehearsals remain folks-need I say more?

Directions:  From the South, get off at the Sullivan Sq. Exit an take Rt 99 towards Everett.  The G & T Lounge is on your right.
From the North and West, take Rt 16 to Rt 99 towards Boston.  The G & T Lounge will be on your left.

Our next brass reheasal is scheduled for next Thursday at the usual times.  We now have 6 rehearsals remaining until our performance, so as you can see(and hear), each rehearsal from now on takes on an added urgency.    Please people, you owe it to your fellow members and to all of us who want to put on a very high quality job in April.  We are competing with ourselves and the job we did last year.  Don't let yourself and the other members down by not coming to rehearsal to prepare for our upcoming gig.

Drumline, please add April 22 to your rehearsal schedule.  We will use that night to play numerous run-throughs of the show and go over any last minute issues that might arise.

Welcome aboard to John Sweeney, yet another of my great Quincy HS Band Alumni!  Besides playing trumpet in The Marching Presidents Band, John did a 3 year stint in the Crusaders on mellophone.  John will be joining our mellophone section.  Also, welcome to Gerry Giugliano who has joined our 2nd soprany line.

Many thanks to the Lt. Norman Prince Post for coming to our aid after we had been ousted from the Legion.  Please thank these nice people by frequenting their bars and tipping generously.  And, also by obeying what few rules they ask us to observe.    And now, The G & T Lounge!  Thank you!!!

Tickets for the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet are now on sale.  Out Legendary TicketMaster, Jay McMahon will have them available at every rehearsal going forward.

As of last week, we have concluded work on "Fanfare for the New".  My intent over the last month was to remove all fear of that arrangement and to show you that it was within our reach.  As of last week, we were able to stumble and fight our way through three fourths of it, and as I said, it was much better than it sounded.  We will resume working on it in the Fall.  We will perform it at some point, hopefully next year.

Last week I received some alarming news from Edna Correia, David's wife.  She has a big fight in front of her as she has, what she tells me, is stage 4 cancer.  I have known Edna since she was a teenage bugler in the New London Surfers when I taught her in the 70's.  I know her to be a brave and tough drum corps girl, and I know she will fight the good fight.  For now, I am certain that she would be bolstered by her drum corps brothers and sisters by an e mail or a card letting her know that we are beside her in this fight.  Her e mail is thecorreias5@comcast.net and her postal address is  33 Arrow Lane, Nashua, NH 03060.  Please let her know that you are at her side as she begins this fight.

Matt Warner has graciously put both "Captain" and "Fanfare" in a Sebelius format. This means that if you e mail him, he can send you a printed copy of "Fanfare"(as opposed to my hand written version).  He can also send you a file with just your part that you can use as a rehearsal tool!  His edress is Warner-m@comcast.net

It has been decided that we will keep "Crown Imperial", "The Lord's Prayer",  and "Masquerade" from last year.

For many years, people have been complaining that we never perform any music of The Boston Crusaders.  There is good reason for this, and it is because the Crusaders Senior Corps has done such a great job keeping the classic Crusader music alive.  Next year, the Crusaders will celebrate their 70th Anniversary.  We will perform a Salute to The Crusaders.  It will be a suite similar to The Civil War Suite we played last year, of much of the great Crusader music over the years that will be new and unperformed since 1990 when The Crusaders celebrated their 50th Anniversary.  Much of it will consist of the Music from "Captain From Castille", which has been the source of much of the great Crusader programs over the years.

Also, we are honored to have been given the Argonne Rebels arrangement of "Fanfare for the New".  We are indebted to Sandra and Glenn Opie for their efforts to recover this music and get it to us.  There is a chance that they will make the trip from Kansas to attend our performance next April, so we will have to make certain that we treat this arrangement with the reverence that it deserves.

We will perform St Kevin's Emerald Knight's and Frank Berdoll's great arrnagement of "Voice of the Guns".  This may be the greatest of many great marches of the British Military.

We will keep "Taps" and "The Lord's Prayer" from last season.

Thanks again for your efforts and your performance last year.  Everyone I talk to continues to be blown away by the performance you gave.
